I am a self taught artist from Keflavik, Iceland. Art has always been an integral part of my life. I paint because it allows me to express my emotions and thoughts in a visual form. Living in a land of breathtaking beauty inspires me to create art which reflects the spirit of Iceland, known worldwide for scenical landscapes and natural wonders that captivate the imagination.
My art primarily focuses on realistic portraits and landscapes - on understanding light and shadow in black and white paintings. Shadows play a crucial role in defining the structure of artwork and conveying mood. Acrylic black and white painting on canvas removes the distraction of color, allowing light and shadow to take center stage creating a strong sense of contrast and depth.
I create texture on my paintings by combining Icelandic black lava sand from Reynisfjara beach (South Coast of Iceland) with acrylic paint. The volcanic sand and paint create grainy texture characteristic for one of a kind Icelandic landscape.
Throughout my experiences, a great interest in photography, drawing, painting and visual storytelling: many styles and means of expression has been discovered in which I have resulted in my creation process.
During last years I organized my art exhibitions and I participated in many group exhibitions in Iceland and Poland. In 2023 I was conducting art classes and workshops for kids & adults at my studio ART CASE-Marta Ryba on Hafnargata 15, Keflavik, Iceland.
I am a part of a co-op ART67 Gallery located in the heart of capital of Iceland, Reykjavik- Laugavegur 61.
